چکیده
In this presentation the normal anatomy and methods of examination of the amphibian eye are discussed. Then the author reports his own clinical experience in amphibian ophthalmology with the description of several ocular disorders. A short literature on this topic is also given.

Diplostomum spathaceum is a digenean parasite with an indirect life cycle. Its mature stage lives in gull's intestine, cercariae in snails (Lymnaeidae) liver and metacercariae stage in piscine, amphibian, and mammalian eyes. Notice that penetration of cercariae into skin and eye cause lesions which cause susceptibility to secondary infections, appetite loss due to infections, blurry vision, and...
متن کاملEffects of hypergravity environments on amphibian development, gene expression and apoptosis.
This study investigates how rearing under conditions of hypergravity affects amphibian development, Xotx2 and Xag1 gene expression and apoptosis. Uncleaved Xenopus laevis eggs 20 min after insemination, 2 cell stage embryos, and gastrula stage embryos were raised at 2G and 5G, while controls were raised in normal gravity. Apoptosis in brain and eye inner structures of hatching embryos was score...
متن کاملRoad Proximity Increases Risk of Skeletal Abnormalities in Wood Frogs from National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska
BACKGROUND Skeletal and eye abnormalities in amphibians are not well understood, and they appear to be increasing while global populations decline. Here, we present the first study of amphibian abnormalities in Alaska. OBJECTIVE In this study we investigated the relationship between anthropogenic influences and the probability of skeletal and eye abnormalities in Alaskan wood frogs (Rana sylv...
متن کاملTesting the Relationship between Human Occupancy in the Landscape and Tadpole Developmental Stress
Amphibian population declines are widespread; the main causal factors are human related and include habitat fragmentation due to agriculture, mining, fires, and urban development. Brazil is the richest country in species of amphibians, and the Brazilian regions with the greatest amphibian diversity are experiencing relatively high rates of habitat destruction, but there are presently relatively...
متن کاملProgrammed cell death during amphibian metamorphosis.
The death of different types of cells occurs in regressing or remodeling organs to transform from a tadpole to a frog in both temporally and spatially regulated manners during amphibian metamorphosis. This morphological change is drastic and visible with the naked eye. This review summarizes our current understanding of the basic mechanism of the cell death during the metamorphosis. It focuses ...
